Openvswitch reaches 1.0.0

The openvswitch open source project hosted by Citrix just released version 1.0. The openvswitch project supports xen, xenserver, kvm, and virtualbox so this is an important milestone for KVM. I haven’t seen much written about using openvswitch with kvm but maybe it’s time to start taking a look at it more closely. Coincidentally, one of the topics on the upcoming kvm forum 2010 is vswitch and VEPA, the Virtual Ethernet Port Aggregator standard.

This release contains bug fixes and and scalability improvements over it’s previous release. The main features that comes with this 1.0 release is shown below.

  • Configuration database with remote management
  • OpenFlow 1.0
  • GRE tunneling
  • Support for XenServer 5.5 and 5.6
