Redhat releases windows kvm virtio drivers under GPLv2

It took some time in coming but today Redhat released it’s paravirtual drivers for the windows operating system under the open source GPLv2 license. To date only paravirtual network drivers were published but this release includes paravirtual block drivers for windows which is very interesting. Paravirtual block drivers for windows has been very low key and known to be unstable. With Redhat expecting to release it’s Enterprise 5.4 version in September , maybe they’ve got windows paravirtual block drivers in working order?

The announcement also comes with some wiki instructions on setting up the paravirtual block driver under two scenarios:

  1. During installation and
  2. Adding a disk to a running system.
